TEASER! denise+kris :: e-session with atrero photography

This weekend was busy. Team Bellz & Whistlez coordinated a wedding at the US Grant in Downtown San Diego, and then on Sunday, I went on site with Atrero Photography to style the set for an engagement photo session with our clients, Denise+Kris (Feb 2011)! The backdrop: the beach! Just when I thought the overcast was going to try and damper our mission, Ed and Karen (Atrero) surprised me with such sexy, dramatic teaser shots, incorporating the blanket of clouds into the composition. WOW!

Ed and Karen, you're killin' us by only showing two! Now I know why they call it a "teaser." I won't be surprised if I catch myself stalking your blog for the next few months!

Stay tuned for more of Atrero Photography 's rockin' e-session with Denise+Kris!

custom derby hats by bellz & whistlez

Yesterday (July 21st, 2010) was the opening day of the Del Mar Racetrack in San Diego. Thousands of visitors flocked the Del Mar grounds to partake in the history of horse racing, make wagers on winning horses, and dress in fashionably fitting attire. Yesterday's opening of the horse races boasted a record 45,309 guests, the largest group to help commence one of Del Mar's famed attractions.* And with the large crowd came some decorative accessories, most notably, the derby hat! Earlier this month, we helped produce a Kentucky Derby themed wedding and made some details to decorate the cocktail hour. With the start of the Del Mar races, it's the perfect time to showcase the creations we made!

sea-life inspired wedding invitations

Amparo "Star" Go and Jahmal Durham's wedding is set to take place at the Honua Kai Lani Estate in the beautiful island of Maui, Hawaii. This intimate event, planned for about 100 guests, is going to be a great opportunity for guests to celebrate the couple's awaited marriage (they've been together for over a decade!), and to take a mini vacation, exploring crystal blue waters, indulging in decadent Hawaiian meals, and listening to melodic island reggae tunes.

Star approached B&W for a really special invitation project -- to help her design a main invitation card and RSVP card that would reflect her color scheme -- purple and orange. But this wasn't a typical project for us -- she had planned on incorporating a box, sea shells, and a custom sewn jacket made of Duponi silk. WOW! By collaborating together, and finding the perfect images to adorn the frame of her main card, we came up with a sea-life inspired design, with classic font treatments, and a starfish logo, representing her nickname, "Star." She and her sister did a fabulous job stitching the silk jackets, and assembling the entire ensemble.

Because Star wanted to use minimal inserts, we increased the size of the RSVP card to accommodate all the important information -- what a brilliant way to save from enclosing multiple cards and to share an exciting 4-day weekend itinerary. The last photo is a snapshot taken from Star's phone of the finished product -- boxed, wrapped, and adorned -- just perfect for this Maui wedding.

wedding forecast by JM :: sketches for Bella

"Sketches for Bella"

***SPOILER ALERT!..If you haven't jumped on the Twilight bandwagon, but plan to, then you might want to skip this post!

Eclipse. This one word equals complete insanity. The Twilight Saga phenomena is at full force especially with the guaranteed box office hit Eclipse in theaters now. I was fortunate enough to watch the midnight showing in a private theater at Fashion Valley thanks to my fellow Twi-hard friend. Don’t worry, I will keep my opinions to myself and will spare details. (Click to read rest of the post, but know we're sharing some details about the movie!)

With Bella and Edward’s wedding approaching, today’s post features a preview of sketches for Bella's wedding dress done by some of the industry’s most notable designers. Thanks InStyle for combining our love for weddings, fashion, and TWILIGHT. Which dress would you like to see Bella in?

wedding forecast by JM :: launch of Pillow Talk Design

"The Launch of Pillow Talk Design"
June 26th was quite eventful. I assisted the B&W team with setup at the Prado for Tania and Lenin’s beautiful wedding, took off to ANdAZ to overlook a cocktail reception, and then ended the night at Red Pearl Kitchen for the launch of Pillow Talk Design! PTD creates posh custom pillows making them the perfect gift for any occasion. House warmings, weddings, birthdays, or even for yourself. Co-owners and sisters, Honey David and Maricris Guanga are super sweet and I was fortunate enough to conduct the following Q&A session with them.

Photos above: (top right) Maricris Guanga (co-owner); (left) the pillows; (bottom right) owners Honey David and Maricris Guanga with B&W's Janissa Mendoza; (bottom left) Sherwin and Honey

JM: Tell me the story behind PTD.
HD: Sewing has been a hobby of Mar’s for many years. She started at a young age, learning from our mother, and took classes in high school. Mar created many things from sewing including hanging caddies, clothes for her pug, and finally pillows. Friends in Virginia and in California started showing interest in Mar’s pillows and so the idea of Pillow Talk Design was born in early 2009.

MD: Honey, with her business background and marketing expertise, was the catalyst to the launch of Pillow Talk Design in June of 2010.

JM: Why pillows?
PTD: Here at Pillow Talk Design, we believe luxury is a requirement. Just as a pillow is a staple to every bedroom, we believe luxury should be a staple in everyone’s lives.

JM: You two are practically fraternal twins. Same birthday, yet one year apart. What are your thoughts about starting a business together?
PTD: We get that a lot! Many people comment about how we say, do, and think the same things. The same is true when it comes to Pillow Talk Design. We have similar opinions and share the same vision and attitude for our business. While we are serious about our designs and our work, we certainly know how to keep things fun.

JM: Who is your target market and where do you envision PTD going?
PTD: Our primary target market is women, age 25 years and older. We cater to women who are independent, know what they want, and realize that they deserve to feel luxurious and sexy. In addition to our primary target market, we strive to remind all women that they deserve to feel pampered. We are excited to see where PTD will be in a few years. We hope to have some of our products in specialty boutiques. In the long run, our goal is to remind women that we all deserve to feel inspired and sensual.

JM: Is there any "pillow talk" of additional items to your product line?
PTD: We are definitely open-minded and are looking forward to being able to offer new products. We have already been approached by clients requesting products like party favors and luxury pet beds. A lot of our clients are men purchasing products for the women in their lives, and a few of them have asked whether we would ever create products for men. We aren’t there yet, but it can always be a future venture. We have also been brain storming about lingerie, aroma-therapy sachets, and sleeping eye masks, or what we would call “eye-pillows."
